Background to the Mid Western Consumer Advisory Group Inc.

Following its formation in 1993, the Mid Western Consumer Advisory Group Inc identified the need to provide a safe environment where people living with a mental illness would have the opportunity to develop friendships, gain social and work skills, advocate for mental health consumers, enhance partnerships with service providers and community members and overcome stigma.


Our Mission Statement

The Mid Western Consumer Advisory Group Inc seeks to become an equal, vital and central part of the
Mental Health community by providing support for consumers and carers living with mental health issues.


Goals

The goals of the Mid Western Consumer Advisory Group Inc are:

  1. To identify and address the needs of Consumers and Carers through effective strategies
  2. To be thoroughly informed about issues impacting on Consumers and carers and the services that provide for them
  3. To support and enhance Consumer participation in the Mental health community
  4. To appoint Consumer and Carer representatives to boards, committees and forums that might impact on legislation, policy and service delivery
  5. To lobby, advocate and empower Consumers and Carers
  6. To educate and raise community awareness of issues that impact on the quality of life of Consumers and Carers
  7. To monitor and ensure implementation and compliance of Mental Health plans and National Mental Health Frameworks
  8. To work in collaboration with local mental health services to develop more effective means for Consumer and Carer participation
  9. To develop and enhance new and existing partnerships between Consumers, Carers, Service Providers and the community

Who Runs It?

The O'Brien Centre is managed by Mid-Western Consumers Advisory Group Inc. (CAG)

in the

Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS) Region.

Anyone who lives with a mental illness, carers of mentall health consumers, family or friends can become a member of M.W.Cag Inc.
